Custom Instructions

Custom Instructions are special directions you can give to an agent, a whole Team, or a single process, to make sure the work is done exactly the way you want.

When to Use Custom Instructions

You can use instructions to define:

• A specific tone or style: "Write in a friendly and funny tone."
• A point of view: "Write this from the perspective of a dog."
• Specific constraints: "The final text must be exactly 100 words."
• Context: "This is for a school assignment about space."

How to Write Good Instructions

The best instructions are simple and clear.

"Please write a 4-line poem about the moon. The tone should be mysterious and magical. The first and third lines should rhyme."

Where to Add Instructions

You can add instructions in three places, from the widest reach to the narrowest:

1. On an agent: what this worker always does, in every team it joins.
2. On a Team: permanent instructions the whole group follows on everything it runs.
3. On a process: instructions just for this one kind of work.

There is a fourth way in, and it needs no form at all: feedback on a finished run becomes an instruction the team is given from then on.

Giving clear instructions is the best way to get amazing results from your agents.
